2 Live Crew member, Fresh Kid Ice, dead at 53

Tragedy has befallen Hip-Hop yet again as 2 Live Crew member, Fresh Kid Ice, has died.

At approximately 7:50 AM on Thursday, the 53-year-old pioneering Asian rapper passed away from an undisclosed medical issue in a Miami hospital, according to TMZ.

Fresh Kid–who served in the U.S. Air Force prior to delving into music–formed the legendary hip-hop group with DJ Mr. Mixx and Amazing Vee in 1984, and later hooked up with 90s music giant, Uncle Luke, when they signed with his record label.

Churning out hits like “Me So Horny,” and “Throw The D,” Fresh and his musical cohorts solidified their everlasting stain in the rap classic annals…

Riddled with lyrics considered overly filthy and sexually inappropriate, 2 Live Crew’s Nasty As They Wanna Be album became the first LP labeled legally obscene by the government.

In 1990, Fresh Kid and Uncle Luke were arrested after a live performance police deemed obscene and lewd.

Later in life, the rapper Ice formed his own label, Chinaman Records.

In the wake of Fresh’s passing, a number of Hip-Hop heavyweights expressed their deepest condolence online…
