Baby Purple One: Prince’s ex wife spills on the death of their six day old disabled son

“I don’t think he ever got over it,” Mayte Garcia, the ex-wife of late virtuoso, Prince, said of the legend’s lingering grief over the loss of their six day old baby due to a rare genetic disorder.
In her new memoir, The Most Beautiful: My Life with Prince, the 43-year-old former Hollywood Exes star spills on the tragic passing of her and the “When Doves Cry” crooner’s only child together, Amiir — which is Arabic for “prince.”

“I don’t know how anybody can get over it. I know I haven’t,” a grieving Mayte served as she recently chopped it up with People Magazine.

While enjoying a fairly smooth pregnancy in 1996, the then 22-year-old dancer one day discovered she was bleeding and was urged by her physicians to undergo an amniocentesis to test for genetic abnormalities– though warned that the procedure carried a risk of miscarriage…
When the “Kiss” singer–who passed away on April 21, 2016 due to an accidental overdose–objected to jeopardizing the life and safety of his unborn son, Mayte says they placed their child’s health in the Lord’s hands.
“Please, bless this child,” said Prince, according to his ex, as he prayed on his knees . “We know you won’t allow this child to be harmed.”

Unfortunately for the pair–who married in ’96 and at the time resided together in the musical mastermind’s Paisley Park, MN estate– further exams revealed more complications and potentially life threatening abnormalities in the baby.
On October 16, Mayte delivered Amiir via C-section… And in her book, describes the horrifying realities that smacked her and the “Purple Rain” luminary upside the head upon first glance at their severely deformed baby.

“I don’t know how to describe the look on my husband’s face. Pure joy,” she says of Prince’s initial reaction to the birth of his son.

“And then they held the baby up to those harsh lights,” she continues. “The elation on my husband’s face turned to pure terror.”

Amiir was diagnosed with, “Pfeiffer syndrome type 2… a genetic disorder that causes skeletal and systematic abnormalities,” she writes. “The premature fusing of the bones in the skull, sometimes resulting in ‘cloverleaf skull,’ in which the eyes are outside the sockets. The fusion of bones in the hands and feet causing a webbed or pawlike appearance … I learned all of this later.”

“They brought the baby over to us,” Mayte adds. “He was curled on his side, gasping shallow little gulps of air. Because there were no lids to blink, his eyes looked startled and dry. I caught hold of his tiny hand, saying over and over, ‘Mama loves you, Mama’s here.’”
Doctors performed several procedures on Amiir in the hopes to save his life…but the sick baby ultimately died at six days old.

“I’ve been making notes of my life but when it finally came time to write it, it took me back and I cried many tears,” Mayte told the magazine. “But I also think that it’s liberating.”
Mayte and Prince divorced in 2000. The deceased “Purple One” went on to marry Manuela Testolini in 2001 and later ended their marriage in 2006.
