Blessing For Auntie: Mary J. Blige earns double Oscar nominations at 90th Academy Awards



“Be Happy” singer, Mary J. Blige, has several new somethings to smile about.

In the midst of an arduous and financially draining divorce from estranged hubby, Kendu “Can-We-Increase-That-Spousal-Support-Check-Some-Mo’” Isaacs, the 47-year-old musical legend and actress has been nominated for two Oscars.

Securing her first ever Academy Award nod for her masterful performance in highly acclaimed period piece, Mudbound, Mary has also earned herself a seat at the exclusive table of double nominees at the 90th annual celebration of cinematic excellence.

In addition to her Best Supporting Actress nom, the New York-born “Just Fine” songstress stands to nab a trophy for Best Original Song for “Mighty River,” which she wrote and sang for the film.

A consummate performer, Mary has lent her talents to a number of television and film projects including Rock of Ages, Black Nativity, Empire, How to Get Away With Murder, and Prison Song.

The “Not Gon’ Cry” chanteuse’s role in Mudbound has previously acquired nominations for Best Supporting Actress– Motion Picture and Best Original Song at the Golden Globes, as well as nods at the Critics’ Choice Awards, Screen Actors Guild Award and a trophy for Breakout Actress at the Hollywood Film Awards.

Mary’s double Oscar nominations come just days after Sean “Diddy” Combs presented her with a Hollywood Walk Of Fame star in January 11.

The 90th annual Academy Awards will be hosted live by Jimmy Kimmel at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, March 4 starting at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on ABC.
