Conning the Queen: Mary J. Blige calls Kendu a “con artist” who wants all her money

“I used a lot of my own heaviness from my own misery that I was living in that horrible marriage,” R&B baddie, Mary J. Blige explained as she revealed that the lingering anguish from her super soured relationship with “con artist” ex-husband, Kendu Isaacs, served as a source of creative genius for her role in upcoming Netflix period piece, Mudbound.

While slaying the cover of Variety in promotion of the operatic drama’s November 2017 streaming service debut, the 46-year-old “Enough Crying” crooner confessed to drawing on the miseries of her marital devastation in order to successfully portray fictional character, Florence Jackson—the movie’s emotional core.

“I was just dying in it. I knew something was wrong,” Mary said of the personal agony she endured while shooting the film last summer, before citing irreconcilable differences as her grounds for divorce from Kendu in July 2016. “I just couldn’t prove it. I just had all the heaviness of not feeling right, not feeling good. I gave it to Florence.”

Speaking to her current emotional state around the dissolution of her 12 year marriage to her estranged hubby/ex-manager—against whom she’s made allegations of infidelity and financial impropriety— the Grammy Award winning chanteuse said, “I’m doing OK. I’m living.”

She continued, “I’m not happy about a lot of things. I thought someone loved me, right? Turns out, he was a con artist and he didn’t, and now he’s coming after me for all my money.”

Referencing Kendu’s alleged affair with her former musical protégé, Starshell, the “Not Gonna Cry” vocalist added, “When you come out of something like that, you realize you were never the one. There was someone else that was his queen. I got played. I got suckered. I have to keep smiling and keep my spirits up because this is designed to kill me.”

As previously reported on Cheekywiki, in June, MJB was ordered to pay Kendu—who initially sought a $129,319 monthly payout from his “Runaway Love” singing ex— $30K a month in temporary spousal support as well as a one-time lump sum payment of $253K.

Mary also accused her estranged bae of blowing approximately $420,000 of her money on non-business related “travel charges” linked to to visits with his purported mistress.

Mudbound is scheduled to premier on Netflix and in select theaters on November 17.
