“This is a man who could live anywhere, but calls Toronto home,” he said. “He wants us to be proud of him. And we are. I am.”
The leader of Canada’s largest city continued expressing his adoration for Drizzy by referencing the rapper’s drive to consistently rep Toronto in the music industry.
“He talked about wanting to contribute & for the city to see him as more than just a name — but a force of good,” he said. “He talked about his desire to build our music scene, to inspire youth and help address the social issues felt across Toronto.”
In a video–backed by the beat of Drake’s hit track, “Trophies”–Mayor Tory says, “I believe the key should go to individuals who make people across the city feel good about themselves and about their city. It should make us proud about who we are and what we can achieve. I want these moments to inspire us as a city and to send a real message…Toronto can do great things.
The presentation of the city’s key to the OVO leader will reportedly take place as NBA All-Star weekend begins it’s first-ever iteration of the event outside the United States.
Drake will also be serving as a coach during the LIT weekend’s celebrity basketball tournament.
