Homegrown Helper: Solange announces Hurricane Harvey benefit concerts

A Seat At The Table mastermind, Solange Knowles, is taking a stand for her city as the Grammy Award winning vocalist announced upcoming Hurricane Harvey benefit concerts in the name of recovery efforts for Houston, Texas.

On Wednesday, the 31-year-old “Cranes In The Sky” singer revealed she’ll be performing a special Orion’s Rise show at Boston’s Orpheum Theatre on September 28—of which all proceeds will be allocated to victims of the Category 4 hurricane that’s plagued Houstonians over the last several days.

“I’m committed to partnering with organizations on the ground in Houston and making contributions to uplift the city that raised me with so much love,” she wrote.

Doubling her support efforts, Solange also added an additional tour stop at New York’s Radio City Music Hall in October, noting that a small portion of every ticket sold will be donated to Houston’s devastated third-ward, her and Beyonce’s original stomping grounds.

“$3 from every ticket sale will go directly to Hurricane Harvey relief in the area,” she said.

Solo’s philanthropic moves closely trail Yonce’s pledge to “implement a plan to help as many as we can,” in light of the storm that’s already claimed the lives of at least 35 people, according to reports.

On Monday, music’s Queen Bey–who’s alleged to have quietly donated a staggering $7 million towards Harvey aid measures– released a statement to The Houston Chronicle, in which she said, “My heart goes out to my hometown, Houston, and I remain in constant prayer for those affected and for the rescuers who have been so brave and determined to do so much to help.”

She continued, “I am working closely with my team at BeyGOOD as well as my pastor [Rudy Rasmus at St. John’s in downtown Houston] to implement a plan to help as many as we can.”

Mom, Tina Lawson, followed suit by taking to Instagram urging the masses to give.

“Please donate to this hurricane Harvey relief fund. Thru Bread of Life,” she wrote. “Houston folks opened their city and their hearts when Katrina hit New Orleans . Now it’s time to help them. They are suffering Please help.”
