Issa Honor: LL Cool J nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction

LL Cool J is poised to be eternally memorialized in the annals of music litty-ness as the Hip-Hop veteran has been nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2018.

On the heels of being nobly acknowledged for his lifelong contributions to the culture during the 2017 W.E.B. Du Bois Medal ceremony at the Hutchins Honors Center on Wednesday, Queens’ platinum-selling 49–year-old “I Need Love” lyricist has been tapped to join the likes of singer-activist Nina Simone, Bon Jovi, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, Radiohead, MC5, Rage Against The Machine, Judas Priest, The Cars, and more in the upcoming year’s Rock Hall luminary intake…

In order to be considered for nomination into music’s most exclusive club, artists must have released their official debut project at least 25 years prior to their prospective induction date. Innovation, superiority in style and technique, musical influence on other artists, as well as length and depth of discography are a few other complementary factors taken under advisement during the nominee selection process.

And while the 2018 candidates might all fit the criteria and be deserving of Hall Of Fame inclusion, only five to seven of the 20 nominees will be granted access into the prestigious archives.

Winners are chosen by an international voting body of more than 900 electors—comprised of past inductees, historians, online fan balloters, and members of the music industry.

In 2017, late left coast legend, Tupac Shakur, as well as Yes, Joan Baez, Pearl Jam, Electric Light Orchestra and Journey were all inducted into the highly-regarded chamber of artistic greatness…

Inductees for Rock Hall’s class of 2018 will be announced in December, with a ceremony—which will be broadcast via HBO and SiriusXM radio—held in New York City in April.
