It’s The Brooklyn Way:  Bed-Stuy playground to be renamed after Biggie Smalls

DO OR DIE….
Bedford-Stuyvesant is memorializing its livest one, Biggie Smalls, in a massive way…
Though two decades have past since the “Brooklyn’s Finest” boomer met his untimely demise, the late lyricist’s beloved borough is continuing its unwavering commitment to keeping his memory alive by renaming a basketball court in his honor…

In effort to make good on a promise he made to B.I.G.’s grieving mother, Voletta Wallace, shortly after the rapper’s 1997 fatal shooting, City Councilman Robert Cornegy, will proudly scissor a ribbon at the park’s dedication ceremony on the blacktop of Crispus Attucks Playground on Fulton St. and Classon Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant, at the beginning of August.
“This honor is very personal to me,” Robert spilled to the New York Daily News. “Twenty years later, this comes full circle, this renaming of the basketball courts in his honor.”
For years, the councilman–who grew up in the same building at 226 St. James Place in Brooklyn as Biggie and stepped in as his mom’s director following the legend’s murder– tried to get a portion of their block named after the “One More Chance” crooner, but ran into opposition from residents who opposed the tribute because of the Bad Boy representatives violent lyrics and his drug-dealing past.
The Crispus Attucks Playground courts, where Big hooped as a kid before skyrocketing into immortal superstardom, will receive its new name on either Aug 1 or Aug 2, ahead of a annual basketball tournament held in the Notorious One’s honor on Aug 5.
