DMX explains decision to attend rehab; making “great progress” w/ sobriety

A dog’s gotta roam!

And for “Get At Me Dog” rapper, DMX, opting to give up drugs and alcohol was a more palatable punishment than an open-ended sentence of sitting home…

After barking and whimpering at a judge in effort to have his house detention bid lifted, the 46-year-old Yonkers native–who, earlier this month, tested positive for cocaine and marijuana while out on bail in his $1.7 million tax evasion case–was granted the freedom to complete the duration of his court-mandated time out at an in-patient rehabilitation facility.

In reference to his new and slightly less confining digs, X tells TMZ, “House arrest wasn’t working for me, so I made the decision to do something positive and better for myself.”

Sources connected to the “What These B***hes Want” rhymer spill claiming he’ll be getting treatment for substance abuse at a facility in New England… And he won’t even have to wear his GPS ankle monitor.

The woof-happy father of 15 is also said to be working with recovery coach Joseph Griffin, and has already made “great progress.”

DMX even recently took a community outreach trip to a firehouse with his rehab group.

And while he may be losing his drug-infused edge, the “Lose My Mind” microphone monster is still working on new flames for our ears..

“My pen is still to the paper,” he served to the publication. “I’m in Beast Mode.”
