As the all black clad “Straight Outta Compton” crooners took center stage in honor of their collective accomplishment, MC Ren took a moment to take Gene Simmons to task for previously stating that he is, “..looking forward to the death of Hip-Hop,” during an interview with Rolling Stone.

“I want to say to Mr. Gene Simmons that hip-hop is here forever,” Ren began. “We’re supposed to be here.”

According to Billboard, the majority of the audience cheered the rapper on while a few haters met his statement with boos–though it was unclear whether the jeers were directed at Ren’s declaration of an everlasting Hip-Hop or at the mention of the Kiss frontman’s shade.

Piggybacking off of his band mate’s swag, Ice Cub followed up by explaining why N.W.A. deserves a spot in the Hall Of Fame alongside rock legends Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and David Bowie.

“The question is: ‘Are we rock ‘n’ roll?’ ” Cube stated. “And I say, ‘You goddamn right we rock ‘n’ roll.’ Rock ‘n’ roll is not an instrument. It’s not even a style of music. It’s a spirit that’s been going on since the blues, jazz, bebop, soul, rock ‘n’ roll, R&B, heavy metal, punk rock and, yes, hip-hop.”

He added, “Rock ‘n’ roll is not conforming to the people who came before you, but creating your own path in music and life. That is rock ‘n’ roll and that is us.”

So far, Simmons has NOT clapped back at the “Boyz N’ The Hood,” spitters for their message.
