Nelly releasing a COUNTRY music EP

Rapper Nelly may be hanging up his gold chains and signature sweat band and replacing them with a flannel shirt and a cowboy hat as he is said to be recording a country music album.

Music executive and manager of the 40-year-old “Hot in Herr” J. Erving recently told Billboard magazine that Nelly is gearing up to give country music legends like Luke Ryan and Blake Shelton a run for their money.

“He’s a free agent on the label side now, and is working on a country-based Heartland EP, which should be really interesting,”Erving SPILLED to Billboard.

Basing Nelly’s projected success in the genre off of his past work with stars like Tim McGraw, J. Erving believes the rapper’s county album will do just fine.

“He may be one of the first Hip Hop artists to jump into that space in an authentic way with Florida Georgia Line and Tim McGraw, so we think he has an opportunity to grow that base even more.”

The “Nellyville,” reality TV star’s 2012 collaboration with Florida Georgia Line on the “Cruise” remix sold over 7 million copies and has been certified 9x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

In the same way, Nelly’s 2004 hit “Over and Over” featuring Tim McGraw peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

No word from Nelly on his latest project yet… But we’re sure he’s excited to try something new.
