Rip Off, Where??: 50 Cent wins as “Power” lawsuit gets dismissed

It’s not his birthday, but it’s safe to assume rap ruler, 50 Cent, is somewhere partying like he’s turning a year older…After winning a legal battle, in which he was accused of high-jacking Power’s storyline from a pair of playwrights.

Coins clickety-clanking in the hardcore emcee-turned-respected television executive’s Piggy Bank will remain in his possession, as a judge just tossed a lawsuit filed by the two creators of a play, entitled Dangerous, who charged the south-side Jamaica Queens native of ripping off their work.

Per official papers, obtained by TMZ, the complainants highlighted the similarities between their play and Fif’s acclaimed Starz series— noting both projects feature a skillfully elusive drug lord, who engages in violence and money laundering, all the while working to dodge prosecution.

Unfortunately for the playwrights, drawing comparisons between their art and 50’s program proved to be an exercise in futility as a courtroom commander reportedly poop-pooed their claims, saying the likeness they pointed out are common elements found in a series of street-hustler based movies and shows.

“One need only look to such shows and movies as The Wire, Empire, Breaking Bad, Narcos, Weeds, Carlito’s Way, American Gangster, New Jack City, Scarface and Paid in Full,” the judge served.

Luckily for 50 and diehard stans of Power, the show can now go on… in peace!
