Snoop Dogg encourages new rappers to be “original” during the BET Hip Hop Awards

Iconic West Side rider, Snoop Dogg, implored upcoming rappers and artists to continue changing the rules of the rap game as he accepted the “I Am Hip-Hop” award at the 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards.
On Saturday, Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center came alive with the sounds of “Gin and Juice,” “Drop It Like Its Hot,” and “Who Am I (What’s My Name),” bumping through the venue’s sound system as the Hip-Hop community paid homage to it’s 44-year-old god-father.
After viewing a powerful video montage highlighting Snoop’s many resplendent professional accomplishments, the packed audience–comprised of his peers and fanatics–rose to their feet in applause as the highly-praised Dogg Father sauntered to center stage to receive the prestigious honor, presented by Kendrick Lamar.
“To all the young rappers in the game, a lot of people don’t understand you. Y’all are misunderstood,” Uncle Snoop said as the crowd anxiously clung to his every word. “I was misunderstood at the beginning. So you got to keep pushing, be original and diverse. Hip-hop was created many years ago and it’s taken people so many places. You have to be who you are.”
