With the release of her 1998 instant classic, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” a young girl from New Jersey earned herself a special place in the annals of Hip-Hop history.  

 
Though fans of Lauryn haven’t been blessed with much new material since her solo debut album’s release, word on the curb has it that a highly anticipated follow-up to the LP may be headed their way in the near future.

While choppin it up with The Fader, music producer Phil Nicolo spilled that Lauryn’s recent musical work contributions on Nina Revisited: A Tribute to Nina Simone–for Netflix documentary What Happened, Miss Simone?–could be pushing the “That Thing” songstress to making a full comeback onto the R&B scene.

After describing the former Fugees singer’s new work as musical, political, and personal, Phil made it clear that L-Boogie is back at the top of her game. 

 
“When she was first getting back into it, there were times when she wasn’t as positive,” he began. “But I think she’s in the best place I’ve ever seen her. She seems happy and very centered. When I see her, her face lights up.”

 
Echoing his sentiments about the 40-year-old legend, the producer of the Nina Simone film, Jayson Jackson served, “I can say this: I know creating makes her very happy. I couldn’t see her doing as much as she did [on the Simone project] in any state other than happiness.”
